We have had our class poetry recital and everyone managed to recite their poem.  The standard was incredibly high and we had such a hard job choosing 2 to go through to the team final.

Makeover Update: 12 October

So it's the last day of the holidays and the room was finished yesterday!

We have a room to use, even though it's a bit bare.  Thank goodness for the wonderful 'Cultures' presentations, which look great on the new walls.

We will need to organise a 'Working Bee' to scrub the tables and chairs!

I popped into room 13 today - it is now a white shell with 4 painters in room 12 and 13 this weekend!

It is, literally a blank canvas.

Term Certificate, a very special award went to JM, for his work ethic and always trying his best.

Star Person was RJ and he gets to entertain and look after Zippy for the holidays.

We just heard that our Learning Zone is getting a major makeover!
We cleared the room today and we are so excited.
Lots of hard work, but the cavalry arrived (senior students and parents) and it will be worth it!

Some of us even preferred to get ready for the makeover, than have Happy Hour!

And no, HW, it won't be painted all pink!!!

Dazzling Dancing L.G

L.G had a dancing exam this week.  She has worked very hard all year practising a jazz dance routine.  For the exam she and a group of other dancers had to remember the routine without any help from their dance instructor.  The dance academy is very strict and her mum had to make sure she had her hair in a perfect double French braid!  We thought it looked lovely! L.G said that the exam was a bit hard but her teacher thought she did very well. She will find out her results in the next two weeks. Good luck L.G! We know you are very talented and are proud of you for doing your BEST!  

Soccer Star!

We have our very own soccer star in Rm 13! W.M recently received the Chris Boyd Trophy. He plays for the Rep team in the 8th grade and was nominated by his coach. This is what his coach had to say about him:
"I have been involved in coaching W.M for the last three years and I have found him to have an exemplary attitude towards the game, he gives it 100% on the field. I have never in my three years involvement with him seen him lose his temper or display any anger on the field, despite at times some provocation. W.M has been totally committed to his team and fully supportive of his team mates. He has shown true sportsmanship both on and off the field. He has a love of the sport that shows in the way he approaches and plays each game. W.M is a quiet soul but when he is on the field he is focused on what he needs to do and his part in helping his team to be the best they can be. From a coach’s perspective you only need to tell W.M what to do once and he takes this on board and puts it into practice on the field."

Well done W.M. We are proud of you!

On Friday our Dads and Grandads came to school to enjoy a bacon sandwich and coffe, before our special Father's Day assembly.

Room 2 hosted a fantastic assembly and lucky Mr Tosh won the fabulous raffle.

We just had our first run-through of our production, coming up in 2 1/2 weeks.

It was an amazing practise - the choir are singing beautifully and the actors are coming along.

We are at about 6/10 but it is going to be great...

2014 Book Fair

This week we were very excited as the Book Fair came to BDS.
GERONIMO STILTON came to visit and it was so cool to hang out with him in the school library.
Some of us got our favourite Geronimo Stilton books autographed by him.

He would have loved to stay for Book Parade tomorrow, but he has to travel to Hamilton tomorrow, to visit his next school.

Term certificate

Hey, I forgot to post EW's picture - he won the term certificate which is a fantastic achievement.

Also HR received Valued and AA was Star Person, so I am sure he will have had heaps of fun with Zippy for the holidays!

We look forward to another great term coming up in The Learning Zone, where we will be finding out about Cultures and staging our middle school production.

House Day

On Friday 27 June, we had House Day.  We had a session of Jump Jam in the hall, then we split into house groups.  In room 13 a group of Blake children had a lot of fun completing a construction challenge.  We had 4 pieces of card, 2m of selotape, scissors, pencils and rulers.  We had to build the highest free standing tower possible.  We had to work as a team.
